Arcadia Landscape Architecture is delighted to announce that Nicole Wilson has joined the Sydney studio as a Principal. Nicole brings more than 15 years of years of diverse local and international experience to the team, with a particular passion for complex, community-focused urban design projects.

“Nicole’s exceptional experience in large-scale master planning and multi-faceted projects with numerous stakeholders will be a huge asset to our project teams, who are currently working on a range of city-shaping legacy projects, including a network of state-significant urban activation precincts,” says Alex Longley, Founding Principal at Arcadia Landscape Architecture.

Nicole is joining the Sydney Principal team to work alongside Alex Longley, Michael Barnett and Chris Tidswell.

Arcadia will benefit from Nicole’s leadership skills, developed within the studio and working across a range of high-profile projects.

Some of Nicole’s recent project experience has included:

  • Kensington Street and Central Park (various stages), Chippendale
  • Melrose Park (various stages), NSW
  • Australian War Memorial Southern Entrance Redevelopment, Canberra
  • Sydney Park Children’s Bike Track, St Peters
  • Lendlease Circular Quay Tower Public Domain, Circular Quay
  • Pemulwuy Precinct, Redfern
  • London Culture and University District, Stratford, UK
  • Taronga Zoo Wildlife Retreat, Sydney
  • Waterloo Estate State Significant Precinct, Waterloo

Having previously worked with Alex Longley and Michael Barnett, Nicole has been following Arcadia’s growing success over the past decade.

“I was eager to work with a company that had a great pipeline of urban and public work but is also championing innovative design with a point of difference. I love that Arcadia’s projects embrace upfront, authentic Indigenous collaboration, and that there is a commitment from the business to integrate this through every facet of the company, not just design,” says Nicole.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to contribute to Arcadia’s growth nationally. This role combines my passion for designing great spaces with the joy I get from using my mentoring and leadership skills to nurture and support my work colleagues.”

Increasing female representation at the most senior level has been a goal for Arcadia after recognising that gender equity at the Principal level did not match the rest of the company. More than two-thirds of current employees are at Arcadia are women.

“We are thrilled that someone with Nicole’s experience is joining us to help us work towards gender equity across all levels of the business,” says Alex Longley.

“This is an issue recognised by AILA for the landscape architecture industry as a whole, and we hope to see more women being appointed to senior roles in the industry, providing strong role models and voices for the women in the early stages on their landscape architecture careers.”

Nicole says: “As a working mother, I’m passionate about showing what women in our industry can achieve at a senior level, and I’m thrilled to be in a position to make some noise about this and contribute to industry-wide change.”
