After 30 years of life with a tool belt and a hard hat, Matthew Tancred has joined the Arcadia team, bringing an additional layer of “hands on” structural landscaping expertise to the studio. Matthew is renowned for his expertise in structural landscaping, with decades of experience in civil landscaping and construction. This diversity of experience has led to a rare depth of skill and knowledge in delivering complex projects with successful outcomes, complementing the existing skillset within the Arcadia team at the forefront of construction methodology, design and innovation.

Matthew’s role at Arcadia will provide additional rigor to construction documentation and delivery, as he works with Arcadia’s multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects, including the over rail public realm project, Wadanggari Place at St Leonards and the Campbelltown Billabong Parklands water recreation precinct.

“Matthew is a deeply passionate advocate for open spaces and he shares our passion for finding new ways to deliver better outcomes. In the current market conditions, working with Matt to find sustainable construction solutions is not only better for the environment, it’s better for the project budget.” says Alex Longley, Founding Principal, Arcadia Landscape Architecture.

The level of rigor embedded into our design responses is a big point of difference in the industry. Matt works with our staff during design development to ground our documentation in feasible reality and he works directly with contractors on site, to manage construction issues and identify risks before they occur.”

With a portfolio that includes a number of significant public spaces, including the Coal Loader at Waverton, Matthew has expertise across design resolution, tendering, estimating, risk assessment, sensitive heritage refurbishments, contamination control, remediation, Indigenous integration, and civil construction.
