Westfield Whitford City

First opened in 1978, Westfield Whitford in Perth’s northern suburbs is reinventing itself as “a beach inspired precinct, delivering a vibrant resort-style destination for all to enjoy.” The design concept for the landscape elements was greatly influenced by the local environmental systems of the site, with the landscape of the Perth sub-region dominated by a series of dune systems, extending from the coastal edge through to the central plains. Arcadia’s design concept delivers a site which will be activated day and night with  a play zone, paddling pool, stage area, a range of indoor and outdoor seating and dining options. Visitors can also access the SkyDeck with views to the ocean. A series of raised planters have been used within the design as a way of structuring the open space of the retail precinct whilst offering seated amenity and a place of solace from the sun’s rays. The forms of these signature planters pay tribute to the fluid shapes of the ever-changing sand dunes and encourage meandering circulation and movement from users of the space. The species within the planting palette reflect the colour, texture, foliage and growth habit of the local vegetation naturally existing within the coastal habitats of the inspiration dune systems. The centre will include
