Ryde Central

Arcadia, in collaboration with Plus Architecture, has designed a concept for the new civic, cultural and community hub of the City of Ryde.

Ryde Central will be a project that responds to the needs of the community, with a civic space that will house public meeting rooms, offices, childcare facilities, commercial and retail facilities, a plaza and open space, on-site parking and Council Chambers. It will also be home to a dedicated, flexibly-designed cultural and community space.

The site holds iconic landmark opportunity for Ryde, with sweeping views across leafy suburbs and quality green spaces that will form an important part of Ryde’s social ecology. The landscape character will be strongly influenced by Ryde’s richness in culture and diversity.

Ryde Central will contain a variety of spaces programmed for an array of users, including:

The Common – A flexible, programmable central green and deck, ideal for community events.

Blue Gum Point – An elevated boardwalk, bush trail and BBQ area that draws upon the character of Ryde and captures framed views.

The Civic Heart – An urban civic plaza featuring sculptural water elements and public art.

The Journey – Raised connections through to Top Ryde featuring interpretive elements and a native food foraging trail.

Eastern Walk – Interface to Devlin street with entry referencing Ryde’s Orchard history.

Community Gardens – Perched balcony gardens for the whole community to use.
