The project is located on a 1.6km length of the shores of the Georges River, to the eastern side of Liverpool’s CBD. Arcadia was commissioned to undertake the landscape masterplan and urban design for the planning proposal to the 49.6ha. site.
The planning proposal consists of a substantial amount of high density mixed use, refined streetscapes, and 17.1ha of open space that responds to local context, access and ecology, and through the introduced connections to both sides of the river, the Liverpool City Centre will be directly connected to the eastern side of the Georges River and the adjacent communities.
The landscape design proposes to transform Liverpool’s riverfront into a rich diversity of publicly accessible, programmed amenity opportunities for passive and active recreation, whilst rehabilitating the native flora and fauna communities along the waterfront. The riverfront park has been dissected into five precincts that allow for a flexible character of activation, including Active Living, Urban and River Play, River Stage & Festival Park, Natural Riverbank Walk and Gateway Community Park. Through these precincts the greater community will have access to the unlocked beauty and opportunities that this waterfront city has to offer.
