At MLC School in Burwood, two large courtyard spaces have been designed to complement the new Senior School Centre, designed by BVN Donovan Hill. The landscape approach creates exterior learning environments that add a new dimension to MLC’s state of the art learning facilities. The geometric “pod” design, inspired by patterns in nature, facilitates use that adheres to the closely examined social patterns of the user group and creates a platform for engagement and interaction. Arcadia identified a need to provide adaptable spaces, both in scale and structure, for gathering, socialising, conversing and teaching. The functionality of the spaces was paramount, and during the design process Arcadia explored the physical implications of a variety of everyday school situations.
