Working with Billard Leece Partnership, Arcadia worked on the landscape masterplan for the staged redevelopment of Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. The initial stages of works include the mental health unit and redevelopment of the main building and arrival precinct of the site. Working with the architectural design philosophy to the main building, the landscape design develops the main elements whilst creating a sense of arrival, a directional language and breakout spaces for the patients, visitors and staff.
The design is inspired by the contours of the local river banks and the grandeur and beauty of the Red River Gum Trees which line the Murumbidgee River. These elements are reflected in the materiality, planting and curving shapes of the hospital landscape.
