NAIDOC Week panel event in support of Bandu Organisation

18 Jul 2023 | News

As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, Arcadia was delighted to work with Keighran Legal + Advisory to support not-for-profit organisation Bandu Organisation, helping to organise a lunch and panel discussion at Taronga Zoo.

Bandu provides an invaluable support to First Nations tertiary students by connecting them with culturally safe businesses, creating mutually beneficial working relationships that benefit Australian businesses, including the property sector, by increasing Indigenous representation.

Attended by 130 guests, the ticketed event hosted by MC Alex Longley, included a Welcome to Country by Gai-maraigal Elder, Uncle Dennis Foley, a cultural performance by some of the Bandu participants and a panel discussion led by Gomeroi man, Duane Keighran. We heard from four exceptional young people:

• Aidan Porter –a proud Wiradjuri Man from Dubbo, and Co-Founder of Bandu Organisation.
• Mackenzie Saddler –a proud Wiradjuri man from Leeton, currently completing a degree in Landscape Architecture at UTS and recipient of the Arcadia Scholarship for Indigenous Students
• Xhana Tishler – a proud Gamilaroi Woman from Lightning Ridge who commenced a Bachelor of Medical Studies & Doctorate of Medicine at UNSW in 2020
• Sarah Scott – a proud Gamilaroi Woman from Bourke who is completing a combined Social Work (Honours) & Criminology degree at UNSW while working at Plenary.

We would like to thank everyone who supported this event – your attendance means so much to the Bandu organisation and participants in the program.
