Arcadia raises $17,000 for The Firesticks Alliance

26 Feb 2020 | News

Arcadia is thrilled to announce that our Christmas fundraising campaign for the Firesticks Alliance raised $17,000! We were overwhelmed by the generosity shown by our network of clients, collaborators, family and friends in supporting this fundraising effort.

The money will be given to help Firesticks deliver an Indigenous led Cultural Fire program to support affected communities and countries to heal after the devastating fire crisis.

It’s been gratifying to see that there has been such an increase in awareness of the work of the Firesticks Alliance, with many articles appearing in the aftermath of the fires, including this SBS story and this on the ABC. With all the talk around modern hazard reduction methods, it would be really positive to see more support and learning around “cool burns” and other Indigenous cultural and land management practices.

Firesticks is conducting their own campaign here  – their goal is to raise $1 million for a range of  activities, including the training of more than 100 accredited Cultural fire practitioners across Australia to read Country and apply cultural fire regimes that care for and protect Country, life and property. For more information or if you didn’t get a chance to donate, pop on over.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make a donation to Arcadia’s campaign for The Firesticks Alliance – we look forward to seeing an increase in the use and acceptance of Indigenous cultural and land management practices.
