Dunstan Grove and The Platform in the NSW Architecture Awards

07 Jul 2016 | News

Recently Alex and Mike attended the annual presentation dinner for the NSW Architecture Awards and were thrilled to see two of our projects recognised in the Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing Category.

Architectus, Arcadia’s architecture partner for both these projects, received an award for Dunstan Grove and a commendation for North Eveleigh Affordable Housing (The Platform). The Platform was also shortlisted for the City of Sydney Lord Mayor’s Prize for Design Excellence, which recognises projects located within the City of Sydney local government area that improve the quality of the public domain through architectural or urban design excellence.

Congratulations to the team at Architectus, we are very proud to have been part of these projects!

Dunstan Grove

Arcadia and Architectus worked together on this Defence Housing Australia development. The building design and landscape needed to respond to the surroundings, which included the bushland of Lane Cove National park and the adjacent brutalist architecture of UTS Ku-ring-gai campus. More information about the landscape of Dunstan Grove is here, or you can head over to Architectus for more on the architectural design.

The Platform

Arcadia Landscape Architecture worked with Architectus on this City West Housing development, which provided 88 designer affordable housing appartments for essential city workers on lower incomes. Central to the brief was creating a design which encouraged interaction between residents.

Located in the distinctive Carriageworks Precinct at North Eveleigh, City West Housing wanted The Platform to be designed in a way which encouraged community building and interaction between the residents. The result is a setting that connects residents to the unique heritage of The Platform site whilst contributing to the social atmosphere.  Read about The Platform’s landscape here or architecture design here.
