Design Comp win: Sydney Biomedical Accelerator

Arcadia is proud to be part of the team, led by Denton Corker Marshall + HDR, with Aileen Sage, that has won the design competition for the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator project. This 36,000 square metre health, research and education facility is set to create an Australian benchmark for the integration of world-leading biomedical science with clinical research and innovation.

The landscape is a fundamental layer in this project, as the unifying element that stitches the built form together within the University’s Health precinct and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital precinct.

The master plan vision developed a strong approach to Wingara Mura design principles and Connection to Country that the landscape for the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator will seek to respect, expand and strengthen. With its reinterpretation of lost waterways and ancient forests, the proposed landscape will respond to the materials and design language of the adjacent Susan Wakil Garden.

In recognising the comprehensive scientific and landscape theory that supports the biophilic potential of nature on human health, Arcadia has designed a scheme that works in harmony with the architecture to deliver these benefits for staff, students and visitors utilising the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator.
