Connecting with Country to learn about our local lands

08 Dec 2025 | News

Each of our studios marked the end of the year with tailored Connection to Country experiences, learning about our local lands, their history and First Nations culture.

Our Auckland and Newcastle teams joined Sydney for a journey on the Mari Nawi (big canoe) to Be-lang-le-wool (Clark Island) with Tribal Warrior, learning about traditional fishing methods, food gathering techniques and the sustainable practices that have supported Aboriginal communities for thousands of years.

The Brisbane team visited North Stradbroke Island for a Welcome to Country and cultural tour with QUAMPI Quandamooka Arts and Cultural Centre, followed by a North Gorge walk with Matt Burns to understand the cultural significance and natural resources of the area.

In Canberra, the team spent time at Namarag Nature Reserve with Bagariin Consulting for a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and guided tour. The Reserve is a special place for the Ngunnawal people as it is where their ancestors would gather, with the Molonglo River once utilised as a pathway to move throughout the landscape.

And in Melbourne, the team explored bunjil nganga Parkland at Quarry Hills, walking through the Granite Hills Community Park, the new Aboriginal Gathering Place and Connecting Trails which celebrate the cultural significance of the Wurundjeri Willum People.

We are grateful to all the Knowledge Holders and Cultural Leaders who welcomed us, shared their stories and deepened our understanding of Country.
