Three years after commencing operation in Brisbane, the Arcadia Queensland studio has reached a significant stage in the development of the company, appointing new studio Principal, Ben Newell. Ben will work alongside Principal Nathan Clausen to ensure Arcadia continues to build momentum and growth in an exciting time for the Queensland construction industry.
With 20 years of experience in landscape architecture and urban design throughout Australia, the Middle East and China, Ben is ideally suited to jointly lead a team of eleven enthusiastic and talented landscape architects who are working across a range of commercial, retail, public realm, residential, education, health and aged care and mixed-use development projects.
“We have worked hard with Nathan and the team to build recognition of the Arcadia offering in the Queensland market. With some notable projects completed and under construction, we have proven that there is a demand for Arcadia’s approach to design. Our focus on enriching community and Country has been embraced by a range of Queensland clients, who have entrusted us to help them shape meaningful places,” says Alex Longley, Founding Principal, Arcadia Landscape Architecture.
“Ben will make a strong edition to Arcadia with his experience leading multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated, broad-based solutions on complex urban design and planning projects. His passion and experience in the design and delivery of both large-and small scale integrated public realm and infrastructure projects, including significant waterfront public realm projects, will be an asset to our Queensland studio.”
Having watched Arcadia’s growth, both nationally and in Queensland, Ben Newell was drawn to the opportunity to work with Nathan Clausen to further develop and expand on the relationships the team has built, creating more opportunities in a market seeking Arcadia’s design and delivery capabilities.
“I have been taking note of the work Arcadia has completed and the culture they have built over the past decade and have seen the impetus this is having on the work of the Queensland team. I relish the opportunity to help further develop Arcadia and to be leaders within our region, with the support of the wider team,” says Ben Newell, Arcadia Queensland Principal.
“I’m excited to be working on some of the great projects happening in Queensland right now, and to do so amongst a group of like-minded individuals who are as passionate as I am about about good design and creating great outcomes for all to enjoy.”
Ben’s belief that successful places that are grounded to the environments they sit within, aligns with Arcadia’s philosophy that the quality of landscape outcomes is linked to the level of consideration and respect given to the site’s contextual, cultural and social issues.
Established in 2018, Arcadia Queensland is one of three Arcadia studios, with an additional 30 landscape architects and urban designers based in Sydney and Melbourne.
