Award wins for Wadanggari Park

03 Jul 2024 | News

Our team is thrilled that Wadanggari Park has been recognised by award juries in the recent Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) NSW Awards and Parks and Leisure Awards and is a finalist in the National Awards later this year.

Named Park of the Year at the NSW/ACT Parks and Leisure Australia Awards for Excellence, Wadanggari Park is a National Finalist alongside the country’s most exceptional park projects. The only park built over a railway line in Australia, Wadanggari Park is the result of innovative thinking and a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach. This highly complex project delivers much-needed public open space to the St Leonards CBD, supporting the new residential and commercial communities moving into the suburb.

In the recent NSW AILA  Awards, Wadanggari Park received a Landscape Architecture Award in the Parks and Open Space category. In the words of the jury:

Wadanggari Park provides an important new public space in the heart of St Leonards, providing amenities for a growing and dense community and an exemplar of creating high-value open space over rail corridors. The collaboration with local Gaimariagal Elders and other First Nations design collaborators has enriched the project and provided a strong connection to the local place, so that whilst constructed as a thin soil volume over a concrete structure, the park has a sense of being grounded and connected to Country. Dense planting areas of native species provide places for immersion within nature, despite the dense urban surroundings.

Well done to everyone involved including our collaborators:
