Arcadia is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Tidswell as Director. A Partner of the company for four years, Chris was invited by Alex Longley and Michael Barnett to become a Director of the NSW studio.
Chris joined Arcadia in 2018 as a Senior Associate bringing twelve years of experience to Arcadia’s single studio. In 2019 Chris Tidswell became a Partner after demonstrating strong leadership in the studio, particularly on large scale Infrastructure, health and master planning projects.

Over the past five years, Chris has demonstrated a passion and commitment to Arcadia’s growth and development and to achieving great outcomes for our clients and projects. Mike and I are thrilled that Chris will become a Director of Sydney’s operations, as we take the company into the next stage,” says Alex Longley, Director of Arcadia Landscape Architecture.
With a talent for partnerships and combining strategic intelligence with creative design to deliver successful outcomes, Chris is working on some of Australia’s most iconic and complex projects including the Western Gateway sub-precinct (Atlassian, Central Place Sydney and TOGA Central), Sydney Metro Barangaroo Station, TfNSW Sydney Terminal Building Revitalisation project, Sydney Metro West and the Campbelltown Billabong Parklands Precinct.”
With a goal to empower Arcadia’s team of landscape architects and urban designers to advance their careers, Chris will continue to push for action on connecting and designing with Country and progressing diversity and inclusion in the practice and industry.
“Growing up in Adelaide, from a young age I regularly experienced rural South Australia, which gave me an appreciation for the beauty of the Australian landscape. This evolved into a rewarding career as a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer, where I can combine my passion for the landscape, and building connections and partnerships, to build teams and deliver complex projects, whilst endeavouring to enrich community and country in everything we do,” says Chris Tidswell.
A Registered Member of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) since 2013, Chris has served on several AILA State and National Committees, Juries, and was elected as a National AILA Director in 2019, serving on the Board until 2021. Chris is currently acting as an elected International Federation of Landscape Architects Asia Pacific (IFLA APR) Honorary Secretary and sits on the IFLA AAPME Awards Jury. He has been on several Urban Development Institute (UDIA) NSW Committees and is currently part of the Smart Cities Committee for 2023.
Since its establishment in 2011, Arcadia has grown to five studios across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the ACT. A principal team of eight provides strong design leadership for more than 65 employees, with Alex Longley and Michael Barnett Directors for Arcadia Landscape Architecture Group and Chris Tidswell as Director for Arcadia New South Wales.
