Arcadia Landscape Architecture Indigenous Scholarship opens at the University of Newcastle

23 Jan 2026 | News

Arcadia is delighted to announce the new 2026 Arcadia Landscape Architecture Indigenous Scholarship at the University of Newcastle, open to any students enrolled in a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) or the Master of Architecture.

Arcadia launched the first Indigenous Scholarship for Landscape Architecture at UNSW in 2017 to increase First Nations representation in the built environment, with the scholarship now available at seven universities nationally. During this time, Arcadia has benefitted from the unique perspectives, relationships and commitment to Country and culture of five scholarship recipients as they’ve worked at Arcadia while completing their studies.

The intention of the scholarship is to encourage Indigenous students to enter Landscape Architecture, as proper representation of Indigenous people in this industry will increase the capacity to care for and connect with Country and place. This will result in better performing, more meaningful spaces where stories and knowledge can be shared, and true custodianship and care are allowed for.

Arcadia offers additional support to scholarship students, including:

  • Introductions to senior staff to provide mentoring, career and coursework advice and guidance.
  • Opportunity to take on a paid student role within one of our studios in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra.
  • Opportunity to build their network of Indigenous contacts, by connecting them to other Indigenous designers, practitioners and Indigenous Knowledge Holders.

Please contact Pip Meachin at Arcadia for information about the scholarships available – pipm@arcadiala.com.au.
