Located in Macquarie Park, 40 Talavera Road offers an opportunity to provide an exciting commercial precinct with amenity offered to workers and residents alike on this leafy site. Drawing from biophillia and mental restoration theory, the landscape will support wellness and productivity whilst also providing a beautiful ecological setting.
The landscape narrative works as an immersive journey through Wallumedegal Country, home of the Black Snapper People. A meandering journey through bushland characteristic of Lane Cove National Park, the landscape narrative introduces the user to distillations of the landscape typologies of Wallumedegal Country – the sandstone gullies, plateaus and forests, through soft, visceral palettes of material and planting to emphasise the narrative and work to support the sense of place.
Several distinct character areas are proposed to emulate and emphasise the local ecology whilst providing an inviting place to work and relax. Site entry will be through the Forest Plaza; the Bush Link will feature a meandering creek walk and a more direct pedestrian link, while the Central Valley, featuring several sub-typologies, will include a vast central lawn and outdoor meeting rooms and places to gather.
Focused on biophyllic principles, the landscape design naturally fulfills wellness ratings – with an edible bush foods trail, workers have ample permanent and accessible space for food production (e.g. kitchen garden). The creek walk, forest plazas and garden rooms collectively offer over 3500 sqm of space for contemplation, relaxation and restoration. The central lawn, courtyard, amphitheatre and forest plaza and open recreation space collectively provide over 2000 sqm of accessible quality community space with sufficient lighting and seating.
