Arcadia is thrilled to be part of the collaborative design team for Westfield Tea Tree Plaza, which won a Landscape Architecture Award at the recent South Australian AILA Awards. Arcadia’s concept for this exciting retail and food + beverage precinct, which was brought to life by Outerspace Landscape Architects, was recognised in the Civic Spaces category.
The Jury made the following comments about the project: “The redevelopment of Westfield Tea Tree Plaza redefines the conventional model for shopping centres to deliver a first of its kind in South Australia. The project evokes a ‘village’ in a central public plaza that facilitates community activities and offers unique experiences to re-engage the interest of its shoppers. A mix of leisure and entertainment options have been designed to include new restaurants, alfresco dining areas, a play space and cinema.
The project features three main areas including the Entertainment and Leisure Precinct, the North-East Interface and the car park. The project is commended for its use of highly textural materials within the plaza which takes design cues from the character of the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa Valley, and also influences the planting palette.”
