Figtree Pocket is situated at the southern end of the Cbus Property master planned development, Newmarket. Arcadia Landscape Architecture has created a unique and appealing space with sculptural green lawns at the heart of the site, offering opportunities for passive gathering on the sloped turf planes, which are accentuated by raised concrete plinths beneath a row of striking deciduous trees.
Residents can escape to the beautiful “Walled Garden”, a sanctuary under the canopy of the existing fig tree, a defining feature of the landscape design for Figtree Pocket. The canopy of the fig tree provides a central space for everyone to meet under, while timber decking and landscape treatments of this communal area have been carefully designed to maintain the integrity of the tree, creating a tactile and appealing place for people to explore and engage. Lighting respectfully creates a night time feature of the tree, providing visual appeal for residents after the sun has set. The picturesque, private space will act as an external room for residents, while passersby have visual access in keeping with the original heritage gardens of Newmarket. A sunken seating area provides a zone for quiet reflection and gathering.
Working in collaboration with architect SDS, Arcadia has designed the garden spaces to be easily accessible, with seamless connection to the surrounding park and heritage green square. The landscape is carefully set out to suit the rhythm and geometry of the architecture, using complementary materials and respecting the character of the existing landscape already present on the site.
