Meriton Central retail precinct is an open air retail laneway anchored by Woolworths and 16 specialty stores which bring a vibrant marketplace atmosphere to this once-industrial area. The 5,000 sqm retail precinct’s outdoor-style design took inspiration from the atmospheric laneways of Melbourne and the people-watching piazzas of Italy.
Situated on Kent Road, the site is part of the Mascot Station Town Centre Precinct Master plan, transforming an industrial site to a contemporary high density mixed-use and apartment typology. Comprising 1,240 apartments in eight buildings and 5,790sqm of open space for various community amenities, Arcadia’s design provides pedestrian amenity and usable spaces. With 2,450m of streetscape, the site is designed with generous pedestrian zones, shelter from inclement weather, wide stairs and a pedestrian elevator to assist pedestrians to move through the zone with ease. At the same time, the design will make clever use of movable furniture, mounded planting zones, seating, microclimatic zones, parkland and pathways to create open spaces for gathering which will not interfere with pedestrian movement.
