Arcadia – Out & About

02 Nov 2015 | News

On top of all the projects we’ve been working on, the Arcadia team has found time to build on our industry knowledge with Alex, Mike, Sophie and Gabe heading to Melbourne for the 2015 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Conference. Held at Federation Square in Melbourne, the theme of the conference was themed “This Public Life”. Looking at how landscape can change human behaviours and thinking, as well as how changing priorities in landscape architecture can increase human empathy and connection, the conference featured an impressive line-up of local and international thinkers and practitioners from arts and sciences. And of course the all important industry networking was a highlight as well!

At the end of October Arcadia sponsored the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s annual state conference dinner. Alex attended the conference “Cities for the Future.  Liveable. Affordable. Connected” and then Mike joined to go to the dinner. Attended by 350 conference delegates, it was a great opportunity to make connections with some of the most influential people in the development marketplace, including architects, developers, engineers, planners and project investors.

The studio took some well-earned time out to celebrate the Melbourne Cup. Over a delicious lunch at Chiswick, Mike surprised no one by taking out the Best Dressed Male, judged by style guru Melissa Hoyer – it was all in the polka dots. While the Arcadia team showed a distinct lack of talent for picking the winning horse, Sophie won a very lethal looking kitchen knife in the lucky door prize draw so we left feeling like winners.
