The Arcadia/Right Angle Studio (RAS) consortium was one of only four design groups out of 19 who were asked to submit design proposals for the $38M ANU Union Court landscape project. Selected from a national expression of interest to the Australian National University, this high-profile project is focused on creating a “university village”, bringing people and ideas together in a creative environment which is integrated with the rest of the University, as well as providing stronger connections with the wider community.
The Union Court is the heart of the ANU campus in Canberra but with little change since the 1970s, the ANU has identified a need to reinvigorate this space to create a rich cultural, social and recreational experience to complement the leading research and teaching environment at the University.
Following the shortlist notification, Arcadia/RAS proceeded with concept development and design for Union Court, inviting Taylor Cullity Lethlean to contribute in peer review and support, to produce an elegant, flexible and sustainable public realm for ANU. The Arcadia/RAS submission aims to bring to life ANU’s vision for liveability, interest, connection, activation and discovery through a public realm that will not only endure but which will be enhanced through use.
The experience has been hugely beneficial for Arcadia and the team is proud to have reached this stage alongside Aspect Studios, Oculus and McGregor Coxall.
